Sample and loop based software

Sample/loop based software allows you to create music using sound clips of beats and different instruments. It's most suitable for users who are new to music production and want to create music quickly. You don't need any musical background,because you simply select sound clips (provided with the software) and 'paint' them on the screen. You can get started right away without a music keyboard. Loop based software is also suitable if you compose mainly dance and electronic based music, or for remixing work.

Loop based software comes in different versions. The more advanced versions will provide some MIDI capability, but not to the extent of a sequencer program.

ACID DJ 2.0: for DJs.

GarageBand (Apple)

Note: this software is only available for Mac.
Apple iLife '06: includes GarageBand 3 and a range of other multimedia programs.
